About Nursing Home Abuse

With an increasing elderly population, nursing homes are also seeing an increase in their population. An unfortunately, with this, nursing home negligence and abuse has also increased. Medicare and Medicaid Services are just some of the governmental agencies that help to oversee the care and services provided by nursing home. These agencies, and other state and federal agencies like them, have established uniform standards for nursing homes. They work to ensure the protection and safety of all nursing home residents and patients.

Still, over one million nursing home residents are abused in some manner each year. These incidents include negligence and active abuse. Whether the incident was a one time instance of abuse and/or injury, or if it’s reoccurring negligence, the victim has a right to damages. In most cases, the nursing home in question can lose its certification for failing to supply the expected care leading to a loss of federal funding.
